Tino Gagliardi is International President of the American Federation of Musicians of the US and Canada, a role he was elected to in 2023 and assumed in August of that year. Before leading the International Federation, Gagliardi had a distinguished tenure as president of AFM Local 802 in New York City, serving from 2010 to 2018 and returning in 2022.
Gagliardi, an accomplished trumpet player, has performed in New York City’s concert, club date, and recording fields, as well as on Broadway. During his time at Local 802, he was a key negotiator for major contracts involving Broadway productions, the Lincoln Center resident orchestras, and Radio City Music Hall. His influence extended to civic affairs when, in 2015, Mayor Bill de Blasio appointed him to the New York City Cultural Affairs Plan Citizens’ Advisory Committee. Gagliardi also contributed to the AFM at an international level as an International Executive Board member from 2010 to 2018, where he served on the finance, electronic media oversight, and organizing committees.
Under his leadership, the AFM has achieved historic contract wins for musicians, including breakthroughs in streaming residuals, establishing critical guardrails against the misuse of AI, and securing wage increases for the musicians who create the soundtracks for film/television productions. His agreements with the Met Opera, New York Philharmonic, NYC Ballet, Broadway League, and many others ensure fair treatment for musicians in those productions. These accomplishments are a testament to Gagliardi’s unwavering dedication to solidarity and his steadfast commitment to advocating for musicians rights. Most importantly, they underscore his relentless efforts to protect the value of musicians’ contributions and artistry to the entertainment industry, ensuring a promising future for all musicians.
Gagliardi is a trustee and co-chair of the American Federation of Musicians and Employers’ Pension Fund, trustee and co-chair of the AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund, vice president of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), and executive board member of SoundExchange. He also serves on the Labor Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations and Trade Policy for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
